A new survey by Mobius Industries has found that PR professionals in the UK arts industry are reporting a decline in media coverage.
The third annual The State of Arts PR Survey, which had 40 respondents who either work in PR or have PR responsibilities, found 68% reported a decline in coverage space and an oversaturated market as their biggest concern for 2025.
The reasons for this include, outlets closing or merging, journalist redundancies, and increased competition for space.
When asked about coverage, respondents said the easiest coverage to achieve was regional broadcast (26% up from 16% last year), while 28% said it was more difficult.
National broadcast was cited as the most difficult with 67% saying it was difficult or very difficult, and across all categories national press was shown to have a greater percentage of participants agreeing it was growing more difficult than in the regional press categories.
The survey also noted a change in responsibilities and workloads, as it found a three percentage point increase from last year in those managing ‘influencer relationships’ as a main responsibility, now at 25%.
Additionally, a greater number of in-house staff (45%) claimed that workloads were unmanageable or highly unmanageable, compared with only 20% of agency and/or freelance counterparts sharing a similar sentiment.
Mobius Industries’ head of press Emma Berge said: “While challenges persist, from the decline in national coverage to the workload pressures that are in particular affecting in-house staff members, we’ll continue to find new ways to reach new audiences and champion the work of our amazing industry.”
