The PR video review

Heyyyyyup, PR Land.

My name’s Rich Leigh and every Friday, I’ll be highlighting my favourite video campaigns from the world of PR and marketing. If you spot any and can get them to me before I write this (will tend to be Thursdays/early Friday), I’d be more than happy to credit.

Disney

Straight in at the top – and my favourite this week – is this from Disney.

To promote Disney Sides (a series of original Disney-inspired films created by teens), characters from Mickey Mouse through to Frozen’s Ana mirrored the actions of passers-by, their silhouettes imitating members of the public.

I’m a sucker for all things Disney so I’m a tad biased, but you’d have to have a heart of stone to not at least smile at the reveal of this low-budget effort.

The stunt has had some 25 million views on the direct Facebook upload, and 500,000 on the YouTube version above.

Samsung

In an at-first not entirely obvious product tie-in (it looks like it’s to promote the brand’s hobs…), Samsung got into the spirit of Pancake Day this week by creating pancakey likenesses of famous faces:

Alongside the above, Twitter followers were also given the chance to have their very own Pancake Portrait, which is a nice personalised touch.

Macmillan

This week, with the help of Tea and Cake PR, Macmillan installed an Isolation Box in Paddington Station as part of its Not Alone marketing campaign:

The idea is that members of the public experience the feelings of isolation that individuals go through every day after cancer diagnosis, ‘surrounded by people but still feeling completely alone’. Although the above video has very few views in the grand scheme of things, it’s a nice idea I thought was well worth highlighting.

That about does it for this week.

As I say, if you are working on or spot a good video-led PR campaign you think fits in, I’m all ears – tweet me @RichLeighPR or email me here. I’ll always credit with your name and company.
