PR and External Affairs Lead (6 Month FTC) - Good Energy

No day will be the same - here are some of the highlights

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who can preempt and react to the news, finding ways to make Good Energy’s voice a consistent part of the conversation around clean technologies and renewable energy. You will also need to understand and help drive Good Energy’s policy goals through both reactive PR and leading communications and external affairs campaigns.

Responsibilities:

  • Reactive press office: Stay on top of the news agenda, spotting and responding to key events to find ways to get Good Energy noticed.
  • Campaign development: Develop and lead external affairs campaigns which reach both media and policymakers, advancing Good Energy’s key policy goals, both commercial and purpose focused.
  • Media relations: Develop and own relationships with relevant journalists at key national, trade and regional publications.
  • Public affairs: Work closely with the Head of Communications and Regulatory Affairs Manager to reach and engage with key policymakers on Good Energy’s commercial and purpose focused policy goals.
  • Customer and product PR: Work with the Head of Communications and Senior Communications Executive to develop an active flow of customer case studies and product PR stories for relevant business, regional and national media.
  • Stakeholder mapping: Identifying and mapping relevant internal and external stakeholders to develop effective engagement strategies.

What you'll need to succeed

Essentials

  • Media: Extensive experience dealing with media, both developing stories for journalists and spotting reactive opportunities in the news.
  • Communication: A very high standard of written and verbal communication, able to communicate often complex topics in straightforward language.
  • Policy: An understanding of how media and policy influencing interact, finding the most effective ways to influence policy making through media and direct engagement as well as the role policy influencing plays in development of Good Energy’s brand.
  • Project management: Able to develop and lead the management of a project from start to finish, ensuring clear objectives are set out and key stakeholders are bought in.
  • Strategic thinking: Demonstrable ability to align external affairs with an organisations strategic goals.

Desirables

  • Energy knowledge: Good Energy has a wide array of energy industry expertise internally which you can tap into and learn from, however the person in this role will be expected to get up to speed rapidly and as such an in depth knowledge of energy, particularly renewables, would be advantageous.
  • Agency experience: In house experience at a relevant organisation will be valuable, as will agency or consultancy experience.
  • Education: Bachelors degree or above in a relevant field, such as policy, communication or energy.
