Are you a savvy, experienced press officer who believes in the power of communications to drive meaningful change?

Do you want to join a growing, employee-owned, social-purpose agency and work to tackle the most pressing social, environmental and economic issues we face today - in partnership with some of the best non-profit organisations in the world?

Apply now to join di:ga’s News team.

About di:ga: At di:ga, we’re a small but mighty team of communicators who feel privileged to work with organisations that are driving change. We’re passionate about using language and strategy to help people win arguments worth winning.

We focus on work that matters - issues like climate change, human rights, and global development - and help our clients amplify their voices in a crowded, noisy world. Our core offering includes media relations, strategic communications, digital and social media, writing and editing, alongside data, design, public affairs, and media training. With clients like Amnesty International, Chatham House, the Clean Air Fund, Greenpeace, Oxfam, and UNICEF, we partner with some of the most influential organisations globally to amplify critical messages.

Our core team is based in London but we work globally, including by working with partners in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe, to leverage the power of communications to drive change.

In November 2023, di:ga became an employee-owned company, putting our team at the heart of our future and reflecting our culture of collaboration and shared responsibility. We encourage leadership at every level, nurture individual talent, and aim to be ‘more than the sum of our parts.’

About the role: di:ga is seeking an experienced media operator to join our news team.

The News team is responsible for delivering high-impact media relations that shape how global issues are reported. We know what makes a story, how to position it for the right audience, and how to work with journalists across the UK, Europe, the US, and Africa to secure coverage that amplifies the most important narratives.

This permanent, full-time role reports to the Director of News. We will also consider part-time and flexible working requests.

This is a hybrid role, with at least two days a week in our London office (currently Mondays and Wednesdays).

Role-specific skills and attributes:

  • At least three years’ experience of working in a press office, strategic communications role, or agency that works with non-profit clients.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communications plans across multiple sectors.
  • Strong media contacts and knowledge of UK and international media, particularly those covering issues di:ga works on.
  • A clear understanding of ‘what makes news’ across different contexts and markets and how this is evolving, with the ability to advise clients on how to shape content accordingly.
  • Ability to understand complex policy and technical issues quickly and to communicate them in a simple, compelling way.
  • Confident and proactive in selling-in stories - you’re not afraid to pick up the phone, and you know how to get a journalist’s attention creatively and tenaciously.
  • Understanding of how to use digital and social media for communications impact.
  • Self-motivated, driven, creative.
  • Commitment to tracking and measuring the impact of communications activities and strategies.
  • A deep interest in global issues such as human rights, conflict, development, poverty, AI and data rights, and climate change.

Desirable skills and attributes:

  • Good knowledge of and contacts in UK and international NGOs.
  • Good grasp of digital content creation, graphic design and running social media accounts.
  • Experience delivering media training.
  • Experience of working on the issues we cover.
  • Proficiency in at least one language other than English.
  • Experience of working as a journalist.
  • Experience of living or working overseas.
  • Experience of managing staff or contractors.

Person specification: You will be a super smart and tenacious media operator who knows what makes news and how to frame and pitch a story to cut through in different markets. You will have excellent journalist contacts and be able to make new ones as needed. You will write brilliantly, be confident moving between registers, and adept at taking complex policy and data and conveying it in simple, compelling language.

You will have previous experience in a press office, at an agency, or as a journalist, and will instinctively understand how strategic media relations supports advocacy and campaigning. You will have a solid understanding of media markets and will be able to quickly get to grips with the issues we work on. You’ll be flexible, curious, and up for rolling up your sleeves, working closely with colleagues across our Digital and Advocacy & Campaigns teams to learn from each other and design integrated communications strategies that deliver impact.

You’ll also be personable, able to manage client relationships with fairness, diplomacy, and tact. You will ensure that all client interactions are constructive, productive, and respectful, building trust and credibility throughout the process.
