Media and Public Affairs Officer - Advertising Standards Authority

The Opportunity

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the independent regulator for advertising in the UK. It ensures that ads across all media are legal, decent, honest, and truthful. The ASA is engaged with some fast-moving legislative and regulatory debates that play out in the public affairs arena and media.

The Media and Public Affairs Officer sits within the Communications team and the post-holder will play a pivotal role in raising awareness of the ASA’s work among parliamentarians, the media, and consumers. This involves reputation management and articulating the ASA’s policy decisions to a range of stakeholders.

‍Main Responsibilities

  • ‍Manage press cuttings and record press and broadcast coverage.
  • Alongside the Media Relations Officer, act as a primary point of contact for media stakeholders, managing press inquiries and facilitating interviews.
  • Work with the Public Affairs Adviser in monitoring and analysing policy developments and parliamentary activities and share insights with the team.
  • Draft correspondence and assist in responding to consultations.
  • Liaise with Government officials and provide responses to enquiries.
  • Provide briefings and support for senior colleagues as part of our parliamentary engagement.
  • Draft and develop content for the ASA website, newsletters, social media platforms, and press releases.

‍Key Skills and Experience Required

  • ‍Experience working in either a public affairs or media relations position.
  • A strong understanding of, and keen interest in, the UK political and media landscape.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
